Staron® Worktops

Staron countertops are a popular choice across the globe in restaurants, both in the kitchen and as serving counters. They are also used in hospitals, and in doctors / dentists surgeries. The properties of the material itself make the design possibilities of this solid surface almost limitless. Beneficial Properties of a Staron® Work Surface

Staron worksurfaces are 100% non-porous which makes them highly suitable for food preparation, and for use in hospitals and laboratories where hygiene is of the utmost importance. As it is non-porous, it means that bacteria and moulds are unable to grow on it, or to penetrate the surface.

This property means that it is also highly resistant to stains. Spills which would cause staining on many countertops – marble, granite, and quartz, for instance – such as coffee, tea, red wine, lemon juice, vinegar, and more, will simply have no effect on a Staron worktop, although it goes without saying that any spills should be wiped off as soon as they are seen. All that is needed with Staron is a wipe with a damp cloth.

More difficult spills, such as egg that has dried on and hardened, might need a little warm water and a drop of washing up liquid, together with a Scotch Brite pad, but nothing more.

Is Staron® Heat Resistant?

Staron worktops are  also extremely heat resistant, which means that they can be used right up against a cooker, or as a splash back to a cooker, with no problem. Hot fat or oil can simply be wiped off.

However, as with any kitchen work surface, hot pans from the cooker or the oven should never be placed directly on a Staron surface. Samsung say that the heat tolerance is 170°F, so you should always use either a heat pad or a trivet with rubber feet, rather than place the pan on the surface directly.

Is Staron® Durable?

While Staron surfaces will withstand knocks and bumps, it is a good idea to store heavy pots and pans underneath the worktop, rather than in cupboards above. It is always possible to drop a heavy pan, so better not to take any risks.

Foods should not be chopped or cut directly on the surface, either. It is just possible that you could scratch or cut the surface, although you are just as likely to do damage to the blade of your knife. Always use a chopping board. While is it possible to buy chopping boards of tempered glass and other materials, the best type of chopping board is wood. It will last for many years, and is kinder to the knife blade.

How To Repair a Staron® Work Surface

If you should cut or scratch the surface of your Staron worktop, Samsung recommend that you call in the company who installed it for you. However, it is possible to do the work yourself by sanding it out with a sand paper. Which grade you use will depend on the finish of the surface.

Staron worktops come in matt, semi-gloss and high gloss. The matt finishes should be sanded using a circular motion and 180 grit fine sandpaper. Semi-gloss and high gloss finishes need 400 grit sandpaper.

When the cut or scratch has been sanded out, in the case of the matt finish you simply finish off with soap and water and a green Scotch Brite pad. Semi-gloss requires a non-abrasive cleaner and a white Scotch Brite pad, while the high gloss finish needs buffing with a polishing compound and a low speed polisher using a wool pad. It should then be finished with a wax polish to restore the high sheen.

The Design Possibilities of Staron®

Samsung Staron worktops can be fabricated into any shape imaginable, so the possibilities for use in the kitchen are endless. The product can also be joined seamlessly, so that it all appears as one continuous piece. You can have curves, angles, stunning free-flowing island worktops, and pretty much anything else that you can imagine.

There is a great choice of edges, also. You can have square, bull-nose, rounded, double round, single ovolo, single Spanish, shark nose, and several more.

Staron® Sinks

There is also a range of Staron sinks that can be fitted seamlessly, and under mounted, so that everything flows as it should, and there are no joins that can harbour germs or bacteria. Sinks can be single or double bowl, as you wish.

Staron® Colours

Staron worktops also come in a wide range of colours. These include solid colours, together with a range that is referred to as “super solid”. There are three different shades of white, reds, ambers, greys, blacks, and blues.

The Aspen range is based on some solid colours with small and mid-sized particles included, which gives the surfaces an appearance of quartz. Then there is the Pebble range which includes larger particles that, as the name suggests, look somewhat like small pebbles and give an overall impression of a granite surface.

The Metallic range contains metallic crystal flecks which give an impression of depth; on a dark background these look somewhat like stars on a dark night.

There is also the Quarry range which gives a very convincing appearance of natural stone worktops, and the Tempest series which is also inspired by natural stone. These are described as perfect for the user who wants the appearance of real stone, but without any of the hassle of maintenance.

Samsung Staron countertops are the perfect choice for people who want a thing of beauty that requires virtually no maintenance, will withstand the knocks and spills that are bound to occur in the kitchen, and will last a lifetime.
